The SEO – Content “Love” Connection

I’d be the first to say that I’m not an expert on SEO. And I’m okay with that. 100 percent okay that I can focus on my writing and still learn about SEO even if it is at my slow-pokey pace. After all, as all my readings have led me to believe, content and SEO are basically like PB&J, like mac and cheese, like champagne and limousines. They go together is what I’m saying and having one without the other might seem okay but you know that somehow it just isn’t the same.

Take a look at what I think is a good representation of the relationship between content and SEO. Ranked Hard actually did a cool SEO Birthday Card, which I guess also tickled the funny bones of many an SEO specialist this side of the web. Now say what you will about keyword stuffing and keyword density but there’s a good chance that you will encounter SEO guys who’ll sell you on this stuff, so watch out!

SEO love letter

A match made in Internet heaven

no to spamSo last time, I talked about what great content means and how having it convinces search engines to put your site right at the top of search results. Not a lot has changed since then and if you have been keeping yourself up to date with Google’s Panda, you know that now more than ever, you cannot afford to put out bad (as in mediocre, spun, or spam) content.

Of course, the trick here is to build high-quality, relevant, and interesting content while implementing SEO techniques. And this is where a solid relationship between the SEO folks and the copywriting department proves to be invaluable. Obviously, the whole team benefits if everyone contributes or shows off their expertise. Let’s not also discount the importance of having great devs, designers, and social media specialists to really keep those wheels turning. For my part, I must say that I’m very lucky to be working with some of the best SEO guys and gals (Mik Pam, Sir Fred, Ryan, Francis) in the field today. They teach me a boatload of stuff every month. The same goes for the other people in our team – Marvin, our awesome designer; Erica, Joena, and Carina, our social media goddesses; Pat, our brilliant dev, and of course, Michel, our Director of Technology.

Anyway, before I get carried away, here’s a video from GoogleWebmasterHelp featuring Matt Cutts talking about the importance of balance in terms of links and content. Enjoy!
